 It seems that for once our American owners George Gillette and Tom Hicks have finally got something right and an agreement with Rafa Benitez to extend his contract is in place. Now for those of you who don’t know, these same owners tried to sack Rafa about a year ago. Fan power kept Rafa in his job as thousands took to the streets to show their support for the boss. It’s been 18 months since the American’s took over the reigns at Anfield and their tenure has been an unmitigated disaster, they have made a series of PR gaffs, destabilised the club and broken a whole series of promises.  As the credit crunch slowly tightens the noose around their necks, we can only pray that the day that they ride out of town is approaching and we finally see an end to this sorry chapter in our history.

To be top of the league and to qualify for the next round of the champions league as group winners is a remarkable achievement considering the pressures the owners placed on Rafa. It’s testament to his love of the club that Rafa fronted out all the turmoil and put us in the position we find ourselves in now. Rafa you are a true Liverpool legend and we thank you for holding the club together.
